Department of Public Safety

Survey

The Department of Public Safety (Public Safety) is asking for your assistance by taking a few minutes to complete the following survey. This survey is anonymous and secure.

In December 2012, Governor Cuomo signed legislation designating the Security Department as a sworn peace officer agency in the State of New York. The Department then evolved from the Security Department to the Department of Public Safety. Public Safety is a hybrid department staffed by Peace Officers and Public Safety Officers all wearing dark blue uniforms. Sworn Peace Officers are identified by shirt badges.

Peace Officers have authority by law to initiate arrests and now handle many of the incidents at the University previously handled by the Rochester Police Department. We believe this relatively new status lets Public Safety provide the University community with more efficient and effective levels of service.

Our objective is to measure the effectiveness of the Department of Public Safety and with this survey we can measure the quality of the services we provide, gauge community satisfaction, and use the information to improve services and develop future programs.
